Study Time

The guided study hours to complete your TQUK Level 4 Certificate for Higher Level Teaching Assistants (RQF) Qualification are an approximate figure and are dependent upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. You should allow enough time to complete assignments/ question papers to ensure satisfactory outcomes are met.

You will have an initial 12 months in which to complete this qualification.

Requirements

- Have reading and writing skills adequate to meet the requirements of the qualification and be able to complete the written assessments to a good standard.

- Be working in an appropriate school for a minimum of 12 hours per week or 50 hours over the duration of the qualification. This can include voluntary or unpaid work.

- Have a colleague who is willing to work in the capacity of an Expert Witness for you to complete the Observations and Expert Witness Testimonies. Your Expert Witness must be a qualified teacher

Assessment

Assessments are a great way of checking your progress allowing you to apply your learning to real-world situations. Through the TQUK Level 4 Certificate for Higher Level Teaching Assistants (RQF) Qualification, you will be assessed by a series of written assignments, which are submitted to and marked by your tutor along with classroom observations within your placement.

All assignments are set by TQUK. Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a certificate of achievement will be awarded by TQUK, as confirmation that your written work and your classroom observations have met all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for this qualification.

A work placement of at least 50 hours is required to complete this qualification. This workplace must be in a school setting. This can either be a primary, secondary or a special needs school however, you need to also ensure that the pupils you work with are aged 5+ and are studying at Key Stage 1 or above. (Placement is the responsibility of the learner and not the college)

As part of this work placement, you must first ensure that a member of staff with occupational competence is able to provide supervision and sign the witness testimonies. This is to prove you have achieved the work-based learning outcomes of this course.

Please note: There is no examination required for this course.

Further Information

As a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) you are responsible for all the regular tasks and responsibilities of a day-to-day teaching assistant. In addition to this you will also be responsible for teaching classes on your own, cover planned absences and to also enable teachers time to plan and mark work.

Under the direction of teachers, HLTA’s often plan, prepare, and deliver lessons to both pupils on an individual basis along with teaching in small groups. On a short-term basis, a HLTA will also teach ‘whole’ classes, assess work and record pupil’s progress.

Many HLTAs have a role to play outside the classroom, as well: they may manage other classroom-based staff, develop a specialist curriculum area within the school and often liaise with parents and carers on sensitive issues for pupils.

Unit 1 – Understand the Higher-Level Teaching Assistant Role

Learner Outcomes:
- Understand the functions of and requirements for being a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant
- Understand the requirements for continuing professional development specific to the role of the Higher-Level Teaching Assistant
- Understand how to work as a team and share effective practice with colleagues.

Unit 2 – Child development and welfare

Learner Outcomes:
- Understand the phases of child development.
Be able to analyse the factors that affect children’s development.
- Understand the impact that parents and carers can have on the welfare and development of a child.
- Understand how support frameworks can influence the development and welfare of children and young people.

Unit 3 – Awareness of special educational needs

- Understand the special educational needs code of practice and disabilities legislation which relate to supporting learners.
- Understand the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion legislation and codes of practice.
- Understand how to support children and young people who have special educational needs.

Unit 4 – Promoting positive behaviour in children and young people.

Can I speak to anyone prior to registering onto my course?

Can I pay by instalments?

Yes! All our course will enable you to make payment via a payment plan option. All payment plan options will cost around £50 more due to the direct debit platform costs.

Do I need to have a credit check for the instalment plan?

No, we don’t use any credit checking facility and you will not be credit checked to take advantage of our payment plan. It is a direct agreement you have with the college to enable you to make your payments easier to manage.

Can you offer me funding for my course?

Unfortunately, we don’t offer any funding for any of our courses. Instead, we have convenient payment plans to help you manage the cost monthly. Each of our payment plans are carefully crafted to keep the cost as low as possible to make them more manageable.

About Learning

Will I have a Tutor to help me with my course?

Yes, you will have a personal 1-2-1 Tutor. Upon registration you will then choose which Tutor you would like to work with, and they will then support your study throughout. You will be able to directly message your Tutor, email, call and where required, video call.

Can I complete my course quicker than the guided time?

Yes of course! Study is done in your own time at your own pace. This means you can customise and fit your study around your current commitments making completion simple. The number of hours you study each week will determine as to how quickly you complete. The more time you do, the quicker you pass your qualification!

What will I need for my studies?

You will need to have either a PC or a tablet such as the iPad or an Android to study on. For your convenience we have The Learning College app that is available for download off both the app store and google play. We will provide all information, assessments, podcast lessons (watch in your own time at your own pace) along with all answer sheets being set out ready for completion. You will also need to have some form of ‘word’ such as Microsoft word or Open Office (free software) Ask us for more details if you require advice on the free software.

When can I start my course after registering?

Upon finalising your registration via our website, you will have instant access to all course material and will be able to being your studies right away. This applies 24/7 and even at weekends you will have no delay in getting started.

Will I have to take an exam?

With the exception of our Functional Skills qualifications, you will NOT have any exams with our qualifications. Most of our qualifications are assessment based and will be marked on a unit-by-unit basis by your personal 1-2-1 tutor.

What happens if I fail an assignment?

If you fail any of your assignments, please don’t worry. Your personal tutor will generally set you an additional research task toguideyou towards the correct answer whereby you will be able to amend your original answer and re-submit. You have no limit on re-submissions either taking away any worries.

Do I need to attend any lessons?

No, all materials are online via our learner platform to enable you to study in your own time at your own pace. The materials are available 24/7 365 days a year so you will have no restrictions and plenty of time.
